Most readily does the Mortifera Fungus overtake humanoids and other such higher beings, but these are so much chattel in comparison to the mighty creature enthralled to guard the centre of the mycelial domain.

5E-Ready Faction Book

The Mycena Mortifera Faction Book contains a wealth of information about this strange entity, and it's many manifestations across Doaden.

The Mycena Mortifera poses a dangerous threat, both as a location and an encounter. A wide range of scenarios can be crafted around this entity, whether drawing the party underground or witnessing instances of the fungus bursting forth to the surface.

This PDF Booklet contains Lore, Adventure Prompts and 5E-Ready Statblocks for the full Mycena Mortifera Collection, alongside a raft of inspiration to integrate this terrible foe into your own campaign!

The Mycena Mortifera is a most peculiar fungus of unnatural intellect and great appetite. A colossal, gestalt entity formed from a network of mycelial strands and fruiting bodies, spanning the length and breadth of the Empire.

Some even speculate it extends across all of Doaden. It thrives in symbiosis with a vast array of other fungi, and areas under its influence are often overrun by an extraordinary variety of growths. These blighted places form a terrifyingly beautiful tapestry of colours and shapes, nigh-alien to our understanding.

The most crucial aspect of the Mycena Mortifera is its predatory intelligence. Make no mistake, though this entity has more in common with plants than beasts, it is among the deadliest predators on Doaden, tantamount even to some of the extraplanar terrors that beset mortalkind. It seeks out new prey with a relentless, smothering intent, spreading its tendrils far and wide. Its preferred prey is the sentient, humans, giants, elves - creatures with free will. By some grotesque twist of nature or malign design, the Mortifera flourishes most in sentient bodies, feasting on their rich flesh as eagerly as it consumes their will, enslaving them to thralldom under its vast hive mind.

Caves and tunnels stretch across the Empire and all of Doaden, dangerous places feared by surface dwellers. These depths teem with beasts, goblins, trolls, and far more terrifying entities inimical to life above. Few dare venture far into these deep places, as the discoveries within are seldom worth the risk to the wise.

The true vastness of this subterranean realm is largely unknown to those on the surface. Beneath the earth lie sprawling continents, empires, and oceans. From the fading empire of the troglodytic elves and their twisted Fleshsmith, to the hardscrabble goblin tribes, the relentless will of the Mycena Mortifera, and the enigmatic Followers of the Worm, this is a world of wonders and horrors, still bearing yet other entities and Empires that remain entirely unknown by those who dwell above - it is a place of wonders and terrors alike.

Despite the layers of rock and sediment separating these realms from the surface, they have not escaped the Cataclysm's touch. Its corruption seeps in all directions, tainting underground streams and permeating the flesh of creatures below, making it as much a fixture in the depths as it is on the surface.
