Fungal Thralls A | Mycena Mortifera

LORE & BACKGROUND

The Mycena Mortifera thrives most readily within living, sentient hosts. Once its spores are inhaled or enter through an open wound, they rapidly multiply within the warmth of the body. If left untreated, the fungus consumes the host from within, eventually overtaking them entirely. Fruiting bodies burst forth from the decaying flesh, spreading the Mortifera’s influence even further.

What is most unsettling, however, is the fungus’s apparent preference for beings of higher intellect. It favours sentient hosts, disregarding otherwise equally nutritious beasts and simpler-minded creatures.
