Burial Isle
Across the scattered tombs of Doaden, something awakes.
Stone sarcophagi crack open beneath layers of ancient dust. Great pools of blood, still roiling liquid despite the ages, flow once more through ritual runnels. Ossified corpses stir. Forgotten altars weep red. The dead kingdom of Scythria is returning, rising in honor of an ancient vow.
Once, long ago, Scythria stood as a great kingdom, a part, and apart, from the Old Empire. It was a land of order, discipline, and charnel faith.
When the old order fell, and Doaden began to wane under the blight of corruption, they made a compact, a last covenant with their mage-king. They would give all their lifeblood in sacrifice, willingly and utterly, in return for the promise that one day, their sovereign would rise again. And with him, the kingdom, and its people, would be reborn.
That day draws close.

Born of the Grublord’s malign will, these loathsome creatures are architects of slow, insidious transformation. These demonic horrors from a realm beyond are hell-bent on ushering in a terrible metamorphosis, reforming raw and wriggling matter into some new and terrible shape.
Vermixan and his demonic cohort gaze upon the Ashen Wastes; not as a barren land but as a wondrous, writhing nymph of untapped potential, teeming with promise. Here, the land is both consuming, and consumed by itself, ever twisting and folding in upon its own essence, in advance of some distant moment when it will emerge in a form unknown to even the eternal, hungering entities that gaze upon broken Doaden.
Vermixan dreams of this moment, of the Wastes metamorphosing into something far greater than it has ever been. What precisely it is meant to become, even he cannot yet say. All he knows is that it will be glorious, and of shattering significance...
