Folks of the realm
Journal of the Realm’s Ending
Entry 5698 – Under the Yoke of Azerai
Life for the citizens of the Empire has long been one of hardship, toil, and unwavering devotion. From the bustling
streets of its larger cities to the distant, isolated villages within the fringes of the Empire, every aspect of life is governed by the Azerai Church, regardless of one’s private conviction, or proximity to the greater bastions of religious power.
Daily routines are consumed by labour, with most citizens engaged in gruelling tasks meant to support the collective
good, or more truthfully, meet the ever-present needs of an unstable and labyrinthine ideologic ruling body. Whether they are farmers toiling under the harsh sun, artisans crafting their goods with no end, or scribes ever-charting the comings of the smallfolk, the common folk are continuously bombarded with the belief that personal sacrifice is essential to the future of humanity.
Worship is not a choice but a mandate, and places of faith are present in every major township and settlement.

Leonine Beastmaster
Dwelling mostly upon the plains, the Leonine are skilled hunters, following and hunting herds of migratory beasts. A culture of beastmastery and taming has grown amongst the Leonine Tribes, their tamed charges serving as hunting beasts, guardians and companions for the Tribe.
Leonine Shieldbearer
Skilled and ferocious fighters, the Leonine are gifted with a natural strength and agility that far exceeds most other intelligent races. There are those amongst the race who are yet stronger still, and their might serves as a Bulwark for the noble, yet rare, species.
Leonine Soulcaller
The Leonine tribes are a practical folk, the needs of the moment outweighing desperate attachment to hierarchies of the past. The Soulcaller though draws strange power from his forebears, channeled through the mysterious totem-corpse lashed to his back.
Mycena Mortifera II
Chronicle of the Realm’s Ending
Entry 1552 - A Subterranean Intellect
The vast network of caves and tunnels beneath the Empire has always been a mystery to me, a simmering stew of strangeness and horror, occasionally pitting forth some new terror to plague the surface. My sparse understanding of this underworld is drawn from the few dangers that rise from its depths.
One such terror, which has grown increasingly prevalent in recent times, is the Mycena Mortifera, a peculiar fungus of unnatural intellect and great appetite. While I am no mycologist, I will endeavour to outline some basic aspects of this lifeform’s ecology.
The Mortifera is colossal, a gestalt entity formed from a network of mycelial strands and fruiting bodies, spanning the length and breadth of the Empire. Some even speculate it extends across all of Doaden.
It thrives in symbiosis with a vast array of other fungi, and areas under its influence are often overrun by an extraordinary variety of growths. These blighted places form a terrifyingly beautiful tapestry of colours and shapes, nigh-alien to our understanding....
