In the centuries following the cataclysm, mankind grew increasingly wary of the wyrd, and common society became perilous for those who would delve into the higher mysteries. In that growing atmosphere of suspicion and looming precipitous violence, the reclusive Alchemists banded together, forming guilds and secret cabals, which eventually coalesced into the formidable faction they are today - The Alchemic Order.
In the contemporary era, most interaction with the Alchemic Order primarily consists of merchant caravans, traveling across the realms, plying their wondrous talents to the populace before moving on. They maintain a deliberate distance, preventing familiarity from breeding curiosity about the wonders hidden within their mobile laboratories, curiosity which, history has taught them, leads only to mistrust and violence.

A distinctive trait of the Alchemic Order is the suffising presence of a Leperous affliction that mars their flesh. Every member, from lowly acolytes to esteemed High Alchemists, bears strange growths and tumorous buboes, though they conceal these afflictions beneath flowing robes and solar masks when among the common folk. This decay gnaws at both their bodies and minds, prompting the Order to dedicate much of their efforts and studies to staving off the disease's corrosive effects, particularly on their mental faculties. This eternal battle with entropy has borne some of the Order’s greatest discoveries, and most hubristically borne tragedies.
