BACKGROUND

Wherever the Tormentor Cults pass, their sacrificial altars remain as monuments to devastation and horror. Raised from blackened stone, splintered bone and rusted iron, these dreadful sites mark the places where the cultists surrender their twisted offerings. Mutilated remains are arranged upon them with cruel precision, each victim displayed as part of some greater design of pain. Blood gathers in carved channels and the surrounding ground is worn smooth by kneeling supplicants, dragging bodies and struggling feet.

When sufficient agony has been poured into these stones, the influence of the Jailer and the beings that surround it grows oppressive and tangible. The altars become as wounds in the world, places where shadows deepen, blasphemous whispers coil through the air and the veil between this realm and whatever place they inhabit appear to thin, drawing them into the world.
