Unwelcome Salvation - Diorama | Penitent Crusade

LORE & BACKGROUND

The incredible strength of the Bulwarks comes at a terrible cost: dependency. Their might is sustained by doses of a dark alchemical substance, distilled corruption, issued under the eye of the Azerai Priesthood. Without it, they spiral into violence and hunger, their discipline replaced by madness before their bodies waste away.

Unwelcome Salvation captures a moment of terrible clarity. A lone Bulwark, bare-faced and snarling, stands atop a heap of corpses. In his hand, he clutches a still-bleeding heart, ripped from the chest of a corrupted foe and savaged mid-battle in desperation.

Some warriors, in the final stages of deprivation, resort to cannibalism, drawn to the potent corruption in enemy flesh to momentarily quell their decline. It is a last, shameful act, a crime in doctrine, yet tolerated in silence.

The Priesthood knows this hunger and exploits it. The Bulwarks are unmatched in strength, but it is a strength granted on a leash. Their power is not their own. And in this frozen moment, victory and damnation become one.
