Flayed Slaves | Balazar's Dominion

LORE & BACKGROUND

The Rites of Binding do not grant ascension to all. For every chosen vessel, there are dozens who fail, mortals whose souls could not endure communion with the divine weight of demonkind. The Flayed are the remnants of those shattered seekers.

Once full of desire and conviction, these aspirants came to Ashurr seeking ecstasy and transcendence. But when the Rite failed, their identities fractured, their wills collapsed, and their bodies were flayed as part of the salvaging process. What remains is not death, but a sustained half-existence: skinless, silent, and suspended between torment and ritual utility.

Through cruel alchemy and arcane preservation, the Flayed continue to serve. They shuffle through the marbled courts of Balazar as attendants, scribes, and warnings, living mementos of spiritual overreach. Their pain is constant and purposeful, their presence a reminder that desire alone is not enough to be chosen.

The exalted and the bound treat them with unease, pitying their failure while admiring their endurance. Some whisper that pieces of their souls still linger, quietly dreaming of demons that will never answer again.

They are not cast aside. In the Dominion, even ruin has value.
