Bouffon, Hunchback Jester | Balazar's Dominion

LORE & BACKGROUND

Bouffon, the hunchbacked jester of Balazar’s court, is a figure of pitiful mirth and grotesque tragedy. Born twisted in both form and mind, he serves the Dominion not through strength or sorcery, but as living entertainment: mocked, adored, and cruelly cherished by the decadent elite.

Each day, Bouffon dances, stumbles, and croaks his way through warped performances: mangled dramas, slapstick parodies, and fractured poems meant to amuse the court’s twisted sensibilities. His voice is ragged, his posture broken, yet he beams with joy, unaware that his laughter feeds only derision. He believes himself beloved, a master performer playing to an adoring crowd. In truth, their applause is poison.

The nobles laugh not at his wit, but at his misery. They parade him through the halls, beat him for sport, and twist his suffering into a performance art of humiliation. He is not actor, but act.

And yet, his delight is genuine. His pride is real. In this contradiction lies the court’s cruelest pleasure.
