Anuran Shaman | The Lost Continent

LORE & BACKGROUND

The Anuran Shaman serves as leader and conductor of the tribe’s ritual croaking sessions, most common during heavy rainfall. It remains close to the grounds, where the idols are thickest, and is constantly orchestrating the tribe’s reorganization with compulsive insistence.

It is set apart at once by what it carries. An idol is fixed atop its head, lashed in place with reed and fibre. Its mask is likewise distinct, bearing the same spiraling symbol carved and stained into its surface, matching the marks found on certain totems.

During their nightly gatherings, the Shaman arranges the Anurans around the totems. The croaks and clicks shift from scattered noise into a measured cadence, as though the sound were being directed. Men who have listened too long report the same effects of pressure in the skull, nausea, and disorientation.

The Shaman possesses magical powers, though this is not regular spellcraft.
