Anuran Hunters | The Lost Continent

LORE & BACKGROUND

When encountering the Anurans, you will most often meet the Hunters first, though seldom realise it in time. They are the tribe’s scouts and providers, sent into the shallows to fish and bring meat back to the grounds. At a distance they pass for reed-clumps, half-sunk timber, or the common refuse of the Mirewoods, lying motionless in mud, reeds, or scummed water until prey steps too close, then striking with startling speed.

Compact and wet-bodied, they hide a surprising strength beneath their rotund frame. Their skin weeps a foul secretion that numbs on contact and leaves a lingering burn, and their great maws, set with disturbingly human teeth, are enough to unman even those not yet seized. When pressed, they leap with shocking force and swim with ease, making pursuit futile once they reach open water.

Their equipment is primitive but deliberate: wooden masks, crude shields, and weapons of wood and bone, along with reed-and-twig hats to cheat the sun.
