Acarid Brutelouse | Church of the Acarid

LORE & BACKGROUND

The Brutelouse is born when an Acarid lingers too long in the Broodmare’s chamber without claiming a host. Saturated in pheromones, its body swells into a grotesque behemoth, layers of muscle bulging beneath plates of serrated chitin. Its movements slow, each step deliberate, until prey strays too close. Then, without warning, it explodes into sudden violence, charging with devastating force.

Unlike the restless parasites that prowl the nave and catacombs, Brutelice remain at their posts, stationed as guardians of brood chambers and egg-clusters. Their patience is near infinite, unmoving for hours as if statues of living armor. When they strike, it is with crushing momentum, the shock of impact breaking stone and bone alike. Their grotesque forms are living barricades, placed where escape must be denied. In the church’s depths, these brutes block narrow corridors and stairwells, their looming silhouettes casting long shadows. Where once pilgrims saw processions of guardians in solemn vigil, now intruders encounter bulwarks of chitin, bred not for faith but for slaughter. The Brutelouse is the brood’s immovable wall, a monstrous sentinel forged by stagnation and time.
