Alfarion is one of the scattered remnants of the Mage’s Circle, those refugees and renegades who survive at the edges of the Empire under the weight of fear and persecution. Once known as Alfarion the Knowing, he still wanders the roads in wide-brimmed hat and robes, selling his craft where it is needed and tolerated. He has served lords, merchants, thieves, and worse, remaining loyal to none of them for long.

Yet survival is not his only aim. Like many of the Circle’s remnants, he still seeks mastery of deeper laws and unseen currents beneath spellcraft. Whether he truly understands them is less certain, though he would surely claim otherwise.

At his side lurks his strangest companion, a pale, long-limbed familiar with an oversized head and dark, unblinking eyes. The creature is clearly not of this world, and Alfarion does not deny it. It speaks to him in ways others cannot hear, imparting fragments of knowledge that do not belong to any known school of magic. He listens to it, answers under his breath, and at times seems to look toward it for reassurance before speaking his supposed wisdom.

Whatever bargain binds them, it is clear he values what it offers.
