LORE & BACKGROUND

The Dead Men were once the companions of Aldus in the Band of the Grail, a fellowship bound to a sacred quest in search of a relic of the Sainted Patriarch. Among them were Vestus the Cleric, Wilky the Brute, Royce the Huntsman, and Terrin the Padfoot, each drawn to the road by faith, loyalty, desperation, or the hope of something greater. Their journey ended in the ruins of an abandoned monastery, where only Aldus returned.

When Aldus later came back with the necromancer Murde, his fallen companions were raised once more. They did not return untouched, but neither were they reduced to mindless corpses. Something of who they had been still endured. Fragments of memory. Rotting loyalties. Remnants of the purpose that had once bound them together.

Now they walk as the Dead Men, no longer a noble fellowship but a ruined continuation of one. They follow Aldus across the Empire’s scarred roads, held between death and memory, between old companionship and the unnatural will that restored them. Their tragedy lies in that they are not merely dead, but still somehow burdened by what they once chose to believe in.
