BACKGROUND

While the flesh is quick to rot and memory quicker still, the skull endures. Across the Empire, such remains are seldom treated as refuse. They are trophies, warnings, relics, tokens of oath and offering, each hollow-eyed witness bearing some fragment of what was once defiant, beloved, or damned.

In the harsher townships, a skull posted next to a gate may speak more plainly than any written decree. In the camps of zealots and cultists alike, they are stacked in mute devotion, proof that faith, violence, and necessity often leave the same shape behind.
