LORE & BACKGROUND

Patrius and Esmeria belong to a mendicant order devoted to Saint Halveth, the Pilgrim-Saint, carrying Azerai’s light into the Empire’s most forgotten corners. Unlike the grander branches of the Church, their order does not root itself in cathedrals or courtly patronage. Instead, they take to the road, preaching in roadside shrines, ruined chapels, and settlements long abandoned by the priesthood that claims them.

Their sermons are plain and practical, concerned less with hierarchy and doctrine than with endurance, burden, and carrying faith through small stubborn acts. Yet theirs is not a passive calling. Both are trained in word and war alike, for there are few places in Doaden where faith may be spoken without challenge.

Patrius is seasoned, measured, and tempered by hardship. He understands the roads, their dangers, and the limits of what belief alone can mend. Esmeria, newly anointed, burns with a fiercer certainty. Where he counsels patience, she demands action. Where he sees complexity, she sees failure.

Together they embody two faces of the same calling, an older, sterner faith the wider Church may tolerate, but never fully embrace.
