LORE & BACKGROUND

The abbot came to the church as a pilgrim, seeking lost scripture within the catacombs. Alone and devoted, he wandered too far, and there encountered a rare parasite: a young queen destined to succeed the Broodmare. It anchored itself to his skull, burrowing deep, consuming brain and bone even as it sustained his body. Unlike lesser hosts, he is kept alive, his mind flickering in fragments while the queen feeds and grows.

At times he clasps his hands, whispering prayers he no longer understands. At others he sways in silence, the candle stubs he carries dripping wax across his robe. Yet more often he is little more than a vessel, wandering the corridors near the Broodmare’s chamber. His presence is an omen, for in him lies the hive’s future. The parasites guard him with unusual ferocity, aware that he carries within his head the seed of succession.

The Infested Abbot is not simply another thrall. He is both caretaker and tomb, a man carrying the brood’s future even as it devours him from within. His survival ensures that when the Broodmare falls, the hive will endure.
