LORE & BACKGROUND

High Alchemist Delphus is a name spoken in reverence and apprehension throughout the Alchemic Order. Cloaked in layered robes of parchment and cured hide, he cuts a gaunt, towering figure whose gait flows with a wrongness that escapes easy notice. Those within the Order whisper that he has long since moved beyond the boundaries of natural flesh, reconstructing himself for efficiency over humanity.

Coiled around his body is Vel, a serpentine haemonculus of bioluminescent glands and milky skin. The creature mumbles in slurred mimicry, its utterances shifting between nonsense and uncanny insight. Some believe Vel retains fragments of others’ minds. Others think it speaks only to unsettle. Delphus never explains. He often allows the creature to speak for him, particularly during matters he deems beneath his focus.

Delphus’s mastery of the haemonculic arts is practical as much as profound. His innovations enabled ambulatory siege carriers, grotesque chassis of bred muscle designed to bear alchemical artillery. These living machines reshaped warfare and commerce, their export funding entire districts of Aurum Absolutum’s subterranean sprawl.

Among his peers, Delphus commands admiration and unease in equal measure. His creations bear traces of fallen rivals, his laboratories expand with quiet inevitability. Flesh is not limitation in his hands. It is medium.
