The Lore

Entry 219 - The Cultivators of Balance

Dwellers of the liminal spaces between, the Fae are beings both fundamental, and supremely alien, to our world. Luminous beings whose presence has been felt upon mankind since time immemorial, bringing both wonder and terror to our feeble mortal lives.

Even after all this time, we still know little of the true nature of these strange beings, and their so-called ‘Unseelie Court’, for it is a place that few mortals have ever seen, let alone returned from. All we know of the Fae is their treatment of the lesser races, like ourselves. Rural Villages across Doaden have their own myths and folk tales of the Fae, of strange creatures that dwell on the edges of a village, waiting to snatch up some foolish and unwary child, conversely to feast upon, or to take away to join their wondrous court.

The Unseelie Court is often described in hushed whispers as a place of unimaginable beauty and dread, where the laws of nature and time are warped beyond mortal comprehension. Within its bounds, the seasons dance in a single day, and moonlight casts shadows that sing of forgotten dreams. Few have glimpsed this realm—lonely sojourners and night travellers who wander through a moonlit forest clearing and find themselves in a strange new world. Those who return can scarcely articulate the overwhelming blend of terror and awe inspired by their experience.
