Thanks for reading this post folks – hope it inspires some of you to create your own custom trenchers, I’ve barely scratched the surface of what you could create!

Hobby Spotlight: Kitbashing the Penitent for Trench Crusade
|
|
Hey Folks!
Today we're having a closer look at the characters you can create with the Trench Invasion kit and how seamlessly these parts integrate with the core Trench Crusade miniatures.
Here at Bestiarum, we’ve been exploring the fantastic Trench Crusade Playtest Rules, finding exciting ways to bring the mighty Penitent Crusade into this game system by means of kitbashing our Trencher model parts.
All parts and models used in this post are available in our shop!
Let’s start with the Warband’s lowliest members: the Huskmind Wretches. These versatile models are fully compatible with the Fantasy Husk Kit, the Supplicant Kit, and the Trench Conversion Pack, allowing for a wide range of loadout options.
Next up is the Supplicant Flame Trooper, assembled from multiple kits. The flamer comes from the Trench Conversion Kit, featuring scaled-down versions of the Bulwark’s heavy weapons, ideal for Supplicant or Repentant bodies.
The fuel line was crafted from a stripped ethernet cable wire. Two small holes were drilled into the fuel tank and flamer using a hand drill, creating a secure connection for the wire with strong adhesive.
Here we have a new pose for the Supplicant Corpsmen because you can never have too many riflemen. This simple customization adds a fresh sense of motion to complement the three existing poses.
The Supplicant Raider features a body from the Fantasy Kit combined with parts from the Trench Conversion Kit.
We also removed the Azerai Icon from his belt using clippers (mind your eyes!). Any leftover marks can be easily concealed with one of the small pouches from the Conversion Kit.
Next up is the Bulwark Lancer. This brute is built primarily from the core Trench Invasion set, with a Fantasy Bulwark Spear and a scaled-up bare hand from the Husk/Supplicant Kit added for extra detail.
Last up is the Sergeant. This menacing figure combines parts from various Bulwark sets, including the bare head and weapon from the Fantasy Infantry and the cape from the Manticorac Dragoons. With his hand raised, he exudes an air of casual authority, leading his troops forward.
With several models built, we couldn’t resist writing a sample warband for Trench Crusade. Following community recommendations, we’re using the Heretic Legion rules—perfect for the Bulwark models, with the Anointed fitting them beautifully. (We’ve also reuploaded the STLs with 32mm bases to match.)
We’re excited to get some games in with these models! If you’re a seasoned Trench Crusade player, share your tips or suggestions for improving our list. If you haven’t already, visit trenchcrusade.com to learn more about the game.
We hope you’ve enjoyed this hobby spotlight - building these models was a blast! We can’t wait to see the combos you come up with, and we hope it inspires some more of you to explore the Combo Tier. There are still a few days left to upgrade your pledge and snag a trove of new parts to craft your ideal warband.
Cheers,
Marcus from the Bestiarum Team
