Our Monthly Painting Competition continues to gather momentum over on the community Discord server, and the creativity on display this round has been incredible. This month showcased an amazing array of diverse interpretations of our latest faction.

Each month, hobbyists submit an entry featuring at least one of the newly released models. Once submissions close, the community votes for their top three favourites and from those finalists, the Bestiarum Team chooses the official winner.

In today’s post, we’re taking a look at the submissions of this month's Cult of the Moth, showing the results of this month’s community vote and revealing the competition’s official champion. Let’s dive in!

Competition Results

Community Vote Winners

These entries were voted as this month's top 3 by the members of our community Discord server - congratulations!

Entry #1 - "Moth Queen" by mrredbaron.

Our first winner of the community vote is this mesmerizing rendition of Moth Queen Exuvia herself painted by "mrredbaron.". With a bold choice of different colours and lots of contrast, they use oil paints to great effect, creating a model which absolutely does justice to the Idolator herself!

The back of Exuvia's wings appear to be inspired by the wings of the Central-American blue morpho butterfly (Morpho peleides), no doubt shrouding her in a regal cloak when she's at rest - outstanding work!

Entry #2 - "A light snack as I change" by stephenas1

Our second winner of the community vote is this rendition of one of this month's Moth Acolyte Metamorphs by "stephenas1"! Those who've been following these posts are no doubt familiar with Stephen's work by now, always showcasing how to make models look truly grimdark.

With a wing pattern loosely based on the European narrow-bordered five-spot burnet moth (Zygaena lonicerae) and accompanied by an excellent humorous name, this piece is a well-deserved winner of the community vote.

Entry #3 - Ascended Moth Guardian

The third winner of this month's community vote is an Ascended Moth Guardian painted by "Sir_Brude". The vibrance of this model is off the charts and the colour transitions are simply gorgeous. It has excellent colour choices and lots of interesting focal points throughout.

Despite not using a grimdark painting style, this model still manages to look creepy despite its bold colour choices. It is outstanding from concept to execution - marvelous work!

Monthly Highlights

We'd like to take the time to highlight some other projects this month which grabbed our attention!

"Exuvia Reimagined" by Rynxus

This eccentric version of Moth Queen Exuvia combines a create painting approach with some kitbashing to build something truly unique. The model shows the galaxy contained within her demonic wings, placing her in the center of the universe - a fitting metaphor for Exuvia's domain of Idolatry.

"Exuvia the Idolator" by ArtemMortis

Another rendition of the popular Moth Queen Exuvia, this model showcases the splendor of the Moth Queen and uses a creative basing technique to simulate the silk used by the Moth Queen to encapsulate her demonic eggs.

Moth Knight Oleander by ZuLang Le

Falling just short of the top 3 in the community vote, this model features an apparently venomous rendition of Moth Knight Oleander with some impressive colour transitions. Great work!
