Painting Competition | Winner Announcement | Swine Raid
|
|
The Monthly Painting Competition has returned to our community Discord server, and this month’s theme was the disturbingly delightful Swine Raid. We asked participants to include at least one model from our newest release, and the community absolutely delivered with not just single models but a whole line-up of dioramas as well!
As always, once submissions closed, the Discord community voted for their top three favourites. From those finalists, the Bestiarum Team then selected the official winner.
Below you’ll find the community vote results, our team’s pick, and the other fantastic entries we received this month.
These entries were voted as this month's top 3 by the members of our community Discord server - congratulations!
A new face to the monthly competitions but certainly not new to the grimdark painting scene, "The_Plague_Palette" gives us a beautiful showcase of painting in the grimdark style on one of the Porcine Raiders. Enamels and textures are used to great effect to create an atmospheric piece straight out of a horror scene.
Our second winner of the month is certainly not new to our competitions - "stephenas1" pulled it off once again with a unique-looking framed diorama featuring another Porcine Raider, some very hungry Piglets (both inspired by the Gloucester Old Spot breed!), our new Plundered Cart terrain piece and two very unhappy looking Terrified Peasants trying to escape out of the frame.
Excellently painted with a mix of four(!) types of paints and beautifully crafted using a whole range of natural materials, this framed diorama is certainly one of the most unique entries we've had in our competitions up until now!
Our final winner of the community vote is certainly no newcomer either - "Sir_Brude" returns once again with another stunning scene, this time of yet another (apparently Hampshire breed-inspired) Porcine Raider standing triumphantly atop the new Plundered Cart terrain piece. In stark contrast with the previous entry, this piece was painted entirely using acrylics to great effect and features a beautifully detailed immersive base.
It appears like every month, deciding on a winner becomes more and more difficult which is great to see. After lots of thought, the Bestiarum Team has decided to pick "stephenas1" as the winner of our Monthly Painting Competition!
While both other pieces showed some gorgeous painting work, the team really appreciated the uniqueness and the creativity in building the scene of this diorama and the use of different materials and techniques.
The creation process of this piece was documented very nicely, from the ideation phase to the crafting and painting of all of its components and bringing it all together. Very inspiring!
Another big congratulations from us to all top 3 participants! All of these pieces were executed in unique ways and brought something special to the table.
Our competition winner will receive a digital miniature release of choice and an honorary title on the server with the runners-up receiving a digital product of choice as well.
As mentioned at the start of this article, many people decided to give dioramas a shot this month and created some wonderful, large-scale pieces. We'd like to take the time to highlight some of these other projects which certainly grabbed our attention!
For this month's competition, "MED" created his first ever diorama featuring a number of models from the release in a gruesome scene - nice work!
Another beautiful diorama from "mcfranklin", this time featuring a scene of poor Bartev preparing to defend his property against the Porcine and featuring a cute house and a well.
This small diorama by "Covenants" features some savage-looking Piglets enjoying their spoils after a succesful raid.
This absolute behemoth of a diorama created by "Rynxus" features a swine raid, as well as the entire landscape around it. Awesome work!
This small diorama explores the contrast between different light sources, the warm glow of fire on one side and the cold light of the moon on the other. Very cool!
This bloody scene by "LawHammer40K" showcases the brutality of the Porcine with lots of blood and gore. There's not much left of its poor victim it seems...
Another big thanks to all our competitors. If you'd like to participate in next month's competition, make sure to join our Discord server, head on over to the Monthly Competition channel and check out the rules in the pinned messages!
